Laser beam welding for battery modules: Highest quality through AI
The innovation officially presented at the AKL24 - International Laser Technology Congress describes a holistic approach to laser beam welding for the cell contact of battery modules in the highest quality, using artificial intelligence.
The battery is a significant cost driver and places high overall quality demands on the joining technology. Each weld seam must not only meet the mechanical requirements, but the electrical conductivity is a property that must meet the specifications 100%. The AI-based evaluation of the laser process signals to extract absolute physical values enables the reconstruction of a 3D fingerprint for each weld seam. The direct feedback from the system technology to the system in the form of component strength, gap dimension between the joining parts, the welding depth and thus the contact quality of the cell contact minimizes the quality control loop to batch size ‘1’. In the event of an error, the system is immediately stopped, and the cause of the error is directly eliminated by assigning the cause of the error to the corresponding contact point, thus keeping the scrap rate low.
The finalists of the Innovation Award Laser Technology 2024 were officially presented at the AKL24 - International Laser Technology Congress, and the individual places were announced in a festive manner. Then you never worked on either, if it was a plasma cutter there'd be an exchangeable head, I see the nozzle mounted to the ceramic, typical for lasers, and plasma makes a lot more noise than laser does, noticeablebly more

Some says, aluminum can reflect laser back to head. Can your machine destroy the laser beam head by cutting pure aluminum 1000 series? Or your machine is specially made to cut aluminum?

Aluminum sheet is available with a film that eliminates the surface reflection.
This is promising technology, unfortunately the finish needs a lot of work. I hope they make it so that the finish is at least comparable to plastic extruded 3d printers out there, maybe smaller wire would work.

You can't cut metals with 40W CO2 Laser as they reflect the laser. Though you can cut glass, wood, plastics etc.
you cant "cut" glass with a laser you can burn material under it and break it along that heated line but that is not cutting. plexiglass deffinatly.
@@darkshadowsx5949 old comment - but for those who might read it and believe this - it's wrong. You can cut glass with a laser. Glass does absorb some wavelengths of light. It just transmits visible light much easier - so you need to use something like CO2, which glass absorbs 80% of 10.6um light.

Could you give us more information? What is the wattage of the cutter and how much does itcost? I see those 40W - 60W laser cutters on eBay. Would those be able to cut this aluminium sheet?
no 40W will do nothing
You need at least 150W to cut thin aluminum.

to cut aluminum at that speed you need at least 400w
I have a 15W diode laser (at least ebay seller says) and it will barely etch anodized aluminium. And it cuts 4mm plywood slowly. No way you can cut it with 60W laser. You're better off with cnc router
